So we are based in the UK and we wanted to let you into a few tips of how we get around and to find the cheapest ways, hey, why waste your money on getting there when you can spend it while you’re there. This seems like a strange topic but we think it can really help (we are not train enthusiasts, we just like to get value out of our hard earned pound!)

Letting the train take the strain

• Firstly, if you know you are going and when, book as early as possible.
• Check out any railcards you may qualify for example, we use ‘two together’ so you pay £30 for a year, it’s has to be he same two people who use it, so for couples who travel together this is ideal. You do need passport size photos to have on the card. You get 30% off your ticket price.just one trip to London saves us the price of the card and you can see how many times we use it. Also some points of the year they offer a discount on the card.
• Next use the ‘trainline’ website or app to search for your trains, you will need the dates you want to travel, and if you check some times are cheaper than others. Then add your two together discount.
• Remember when you travel to take the two together card as you will need to show proof to the train guard when they come round.
• Also, you can get 2 for 1 tickets for attractions, so lookout for the deals.

Some examples 

• Ramsgate to Edinburgh picking our times carefully and using two together cost £103.50 each return.
• With just picking any time without a card was £263.30 each.
• Ramsgate to London picking our times carefully and using two together cost £22.60 return.
• With just picking any time without a card was £77 each return.

Stations

• They are not just a hub, these days the bigger city stations are like airports, they have places to eat, things to see and shops …Our favourites are
• St Pancras – this is an amazing stop, there are a multitude of shops, the whole deco is amazing, where you get splendid architecture, places to eat and even a piano where people stop and play, love it most in December for Christmas themes
• Kings cross – some days there is a market outside, and inside the amazing platform 9 ¾ from Harry Potter where you can grab a photo of you running into the platform holding the trolley ( will say there is normally a queue so if this is what you want make sure you have enough time)
• Edinburgh Waverley – the glass ceiling is one to check out and even the view from the outside on the dark.

Things to consider

• Environmental impact, Greener way to travel, the train is scheduled to run.
• Cost if you think of driving there is petrol and parking to take into account against ticket price and congestion charges and any tolls.
• Stress free by train, driving using sat nav, finding parking, navigating the one way streets.
• You see more of the views and you can plan the rest of your trip, have a picnic, have a nap and just relax
