Intro to Walthamstow Wetlands

Some green to be seen, 15 miles from central London you can get to be one with nature. This nature reserve has 10 reservoirs these service 3.5 million Thames Water customers. On top of that the wetlands are alive with wildlife such as peregrine falcons to voles to dragonflies. 

Visiting

  • It’s free
  • Open 7 days a week 9.30am to 4pm
  • Parking and a Visitors Centre and cafe on site 

Getting there 

  • We came from Stratford to Walthamstow Central by tube, there are four entrances  to the Wetlands, our was a 15 minutes walk
  • You can also travel on the Victoria line and overground to Black horse road station, which is a short walk to the main entrance. 

What to do

  • Download a map of the Wetland from www.walthamstowwetlands_map.pdf – gives you details of walking paths, view points etc
  • Near the main entrance is the Engine Room where the shop, toilets, cafe with various points of interests to view
  • There’s a trail with different boards explaining the wildlife and points of interest 
  • There are bikes and joggers that use these paths. 
  • We enjoyed our wander around looking out from different points and finding out the history of the area.

  • Nearest station – Blackhorse Road Station and Tottenham Hale station
  • Cost – entrance free
  • Places of interest nearby – Walthamstow market, the vestry house museum , Gods Own Junkyard
  • No dogs allowed
  • Traveltaggers top Tip – wear trainers and take a waterproof jacket as weather can be unpredictable its quite open if you get caught out.
