This is a hidden gem in the middle of London near some great well known attractions.

Intro to St Dunstans in the East

This gem in London is located in between the Tower of London and the ‘Walkie Talkie’ (home of another of our favourite spots the Sky Garden). You just wander down Idol Lane and you arrive into this magical place which is nicely tucked away from the usual busy London streets. Expect to spend around ten or fifteen minutes exploring this location and getting some great pictures!

Visiting

  • It’s free
  • It opens 8am-7pm (or dusk whichever is earlier)
  • Post code – EC3R 5DD
  • We used Google Maps to find our way here after walking from the Tower of London. It was around a ten minute walk and easy to find using out phones.

In there

  • The grade 1 listed building originally built around 1100.
  • Damaged by the great fire of London 1666 and again 1941 during the Blitz, it was decided not to rebuild St Dunstans. In 1970 London opened it as a garden.
  • As you can see by the photos it is an oasis in a modern world, the elegant arches of what would have been stained glass windows and doorways against the foliage of the plants and trees turn this into a unique place for resting in a bustling city.
