Whitstable is a coastal town in Kent, famous for its oysters and seafood…what more does it have to offer…. read more!

Getting there

    • To give you an idea of travel times from London St Pancras, on the fast train, takes about 1 hour 11 minutes, the other takes about 1.5 hours.
  • From Canterbury to Whitstable 25 minutes by car.

What to do

    • Beach Walk – a long promenade that runs along he coast of Whitstable, take in the salty air, checking out the harbour, the brightly coloured beach huts and quaint houses that overlook the sea.
    • There is boat trips to check out the local seals that you can get from the harbour.
    • Harbour Market – a place to buy unique souvenirs and artwork from your home, lots of little Knick knacks remember your visit
    • The main town has lots of boutique style shopping if that’s is something you would be looking for.
  • There is also a castle if you want to peruse some local history.

Where to eat

    • Oysters – the are lots of places to try these along the coastal walk or in the town. Locally fished and fresh.
    • Beer and a view try The Neptune on the seafront, try out the local lager Whitstable bay and enjoy the views.
    • Fish and chips while there are lots on the main coast, we went into the town and grabbed some from Ossies on the main road, we went and found a bench facing the sea and these were the best fish and chips we have eaten.
    • They are also traditional English pubs dotted around all ready to serve you.
  • Seafood- in the harbour there are lots of places to have seafood crab, cockles, winkles etc.

Other Things to Know

    • Currency – Sterling/ pound
    • Cost – dependant on what you’re doing
    • Weather – in September the weather can be a little unpredictable, when we went it was 21 degrees
    • Tipping – normal 10-15% of bill depending on service
  • TIP – parking is £1.70 an hour in car parks if your coming by car, try parking in a residential street, keeping you eye out for permit parking.
