You have probably never heard of this volcanic island, but it really is a jewel in the crown of the Mediterranean. Ischia is one of the places to visit in 2018!

Getting there

  • We were based in Napoli for this one day trip so we used the local ferry terminal Molo Beverello.
  • The sailing took about 1 hour and cost about  €68 for two adults return

What to do

  • Off the ferry and walk along the seafront into pretty town with tree lined streets with shops, cafes and restaurants
  • Off the Main Street of the town to the left is a beach which we wander on
  • What attracted us here was Aragonese Castle in Ischia Porto, this stands on a volcanic rocky islet that’s has a pathway from the main island over. The entrance fee is €10 each for adults. Inside the are lots of areas to explore and views super.
  • Also to get away from the heat of the day wander around a park on the way back which had benches and trails to wander round

What to eat

  • We stopped at a restaurant and had Shrimp Linguine it was so fresh, (surprising that as we were in a fishing village ) which was on a road off to the right as you come back over the walkway from the castle
  • In the town they were many gelato shops and they were just what was needed after a 30 minute walk back from the castle

Other Things to Know

  • Currency – Euro
  • Cost – ferry about €68 return for two and €20 for two,for entrance
  • Weather – we was in Ischia in July late 20’s temperature centigrade
  • Tipping – 10-15% of bill
  • Stay hydrated if you walk to the castle make sure you have water it’s very thirsty work in the heat of summer.
