When you think of Capri you have a romantic exclusive location in the Tyrrhenian Sea, with upmarket hotels and boutique shopping, it’s so breathtakingly beautiful- it’s picture perfect.

“Capri on the Amalfi Coast in Italy is my ultimate holiday destination.

 -Vidal Sassoon

Getting there

  • We were based in Napoli for this one day trip so we used the local ferry terminal Molo Beverello.
  • The sailing took about 1 hour and cost €26 each one way – important please read the tips in connection with this at the end of the guide

What to do

  • Once you are off the ferry without everyone in your way, take a moment to take in the amazing views from the blue of the sea to the cliffs embracing the harbor.
  • Once you have done that get on a tour of the island by sea, check Il Fargoni ,Ana Capri, Blue lagoon, Green lagoon, the picturesque fishing village, this trip takes about 2 hours round the whole of the island (they do stop at the blue lagoon, you can pay to go in at a charge of €14 each, if the water isn’t too high for access as it closes.) We traveled with Motoscafisti di Capri which was in the harbor. The guide on this trip was brilliant and kept you engaged the whole way
  • So Capri we would say is on two levels, the harbour and the town. The town you can either take the funicular up or walk up, I would suggest to take the funicular in the summer, especially, the route up is quite steep and between two walls so the sun is captured between them making it a hot and sweaty trek up. There is a drinking water fountain half way up and you will need it.
  • At the top it’s as you would expect designer shopping, cafes and spectacular views well worth it.

Other Things to Know

  • Currency – Euro
  • Cost – island trip €18 each , Blue Lagoon €14
  • Weather – we was in Capri in July late 20’s temperature centigrade
  • Tipping – service charge, we tried one place for a tuna roll, 2 beers and a pasta dish €33 and the. They added €14 service charge definitely not worth €47.
  • IMPORTANT – if you do ferry to Capri they would only sell us a ticket one way, we then had to buy a one way ticket back do this as soon as you get there – do not think I will get it when I want to leave or an hour before – they sold out the tickets for the ferry we booked with and had to wait from 4 until 6 for another booking office to open and the queue was long I would say 100 people
