Intro to Rome
One of the much loved tourist spots, what more can you wish for from a city than one where the sights are all in walking distance! However some new rules have come in and you can get penalties for disregarding these. So let’s break it down.
Most of these we believe are just showing a bit of thought and respect for where your visiting, let’s leave it as we find it.
Spanish Steps – you can no longer to take your wheeled suitcases down them. If you look at this from a sensible point of view, it should help reduce the amount of damage to the steps.
Also, for tourist to not to attach ‘love’ padlocks to any tourist attraction, the weight of the padlocks is quite hefty which causes damage. Recently watched a documentary which showed the people who remember them and how heavy there are collectively, also seen first hand fencing tipping due to the weight, so we can understand it , show your love by not padlocking your name just take a holiday snap.
Water drinking fountains – another reason for loving Rome, free water, get a collapsible cup or reusable drink container, good for the environment, in favour of being greener when travelling, however the rule is not that no one mouth should touch the metal of the fountain use hand or containers.
As well as the water, it has been said about not eating messy foods or littering will also have rules enforced.
Ornamental fountains – no paddling or wading in the fountains you could be hit by a huge fine.
Bare chests – keep your tops on people, if you have the body of a Greek god we get it, however most people who strip their tops off haven’t so keep them on, a bit of respect goes a long way.
So in turn for the tourist having some rules so do locals – the people who dress up for tourist snaps or gladiators is definitely one we saw in Rome, this will no longer be allowed around the tourist attractions. Buskers must have limited noise levels and are not allowed to perform on public transport.
You may be thinking once reading this ‘oh my’ but if you follow the rules- after all it is only about respecting this historic city and having some decency. Rome is a wonderful city to explore.
