Intro to Greenwich

Greenwich is a Borough in London, which touches the River Thames with a great naval history, the most well-known of these is Home to the Cutty Sark… as we take you on our escapade we will show you the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum, the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Market, Greenwich Park and The O2 arena.

Getting there

So once we got into London we headed for Stratford and took the DLR (docklands light railway) through to cutty Sark for maritime greenwich
As you come out of the station area through a little parade of shops – left is cutty sark and right is to the park and Royal observatory etc
You will notice we have used trains as the most efficient method of getting around London

What to do

Cutty Sark – as you can see by the photo its a ship, Cutty Sark is a British clipper ship. Built on the River Clyde in 1869 for the Jock Willis Shipping Line, she was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest. The Cutty Sark was 212 feet 5 inches (64.7 metres) long and 36 feet (11 metres) wide, and it had a net tonnage of 921. Now docked in Greenwich its is now a museum/attraction, you can walk all the way round it for free and buy tickets to go in (have a look in our tips section on tickets)
Greenwich Market – great vibes passing through here with an array if unique items to buys from vintage knick knacks to one off paintings to some delicious street food as u move through the market the different aromas are partying with your senses, if you weren’t hungry you will be.
Greenwich Park – a lovely green space with tree lined pathways, so really accessible if you have prams or wheelchairs, chilled vibes. There is also a deer trail to wander, just follow the signposts.
National maritime museum, this is free unless you are wanting to go into a special exhibition which is charged. Lots of naval, shipping and seafaring if you are into history of the seas etc this is for you
Royal Observatory – we walked up from the park side although if you come in from the otherside the road and parking is right outside, the incline of the hill from the Parkside does have an incline, we did see prams and wheelchairs going up but some did struggle coming down. There are a few must dos, the meridian line where you can stand in two hemispheres west and east (as pictured) and the view of London from the top. (as pictured).
