Whether you call it New Orleans, The Big Easy or Nola for short…the vibes in this place are like nothing you have ever experienced!
“There is something about New Orleans that embodies passion; I’ve never seen that before. There’s something tangible about the essence of the city. You can taste and smell it.”
Blake Lively
Jackson Square
- Jackson Square is a historic park in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960
- In the center of the park stands an equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson erected in 1856, which would behind us in this photo
- Round the outside perimeter of the park, they are stalls set out selling different handmade items or art work, some may negotiate on prices for you
The Mississippi and the Steamboat
- The Mississippi River is the second longest river in North America, flowing 2,350 miles from its source at Lake Itasca through the center of the continental United States to the Gulf of Mexico
- You can access the river from several points including Jackson Square and it gets you right in front of the steam boat boarding area
- Just hanging out there with the steamboat playing it’s welcoming tunes for those who are boarding or those just passing by, along this part of river they hold events throughout the year
The French Market
- As it says on the front it’s a market and in the French quarter!
- The market is full of different wares from street food to taste some authentic New Orleans flavours to vinyl and hand made items, good place to pick up some souvenirs
- Also some sit down cafes and restaurants if you need a rest if you haven’t filled up already
Bourbon Street
- If you have talked or listened to anyone about Bourbon Street the conversation would definitely been about drinking and the size of, the many bars, one of which was made famous for being rescued by Jon Taffer of ‘bar rescue’ fame.
- We went again in the daytime, where there were street entertainers, absinthe shops as pictured and voodoo shops and not forgetting the waves of jazz music so much to see before you get to the nightlife.
Louis Armstrong Park
- Around 32 acres of park located close to the French quarter
- It hosts different events throughout the year such as jazz in the park, while you may not be lucky enough to attend there are lots of statues, bridges to view
- If you need an escape to recover from Bourbon Street there’s no better place
