When we were in Split, the usual sunshine in  May decided to take a unseasonable break and hits us with a very wet deluge, which lead to us trying to find something to do inside. As you can tell the geeks in us rose, after wandering the city looking in many a Game of Thrones shop we turned a corner and found the Museum actually what  we saw was below.. a dragon….DROGON… which immediately caught our attention and yes the theme tune automatically started playing in our heads

Entrance

  • Walking past DROGON and into the reception, after paying you can opt to have a guide to talk you through the exhibit–we did at no extra charge
  • The guide spoke in English which was good as we can’t speak Croatian, just in case you are wondering alot of people in Split and Dubrovnik do speak fluent English.

Inside

  • As you walk past the black curtain you start with pictures of film locations around Croatia
  • Family trees of each main family in the series
  • Costumes of Khalessi, Grey Worm and Missandei which depicted an area devoted to Meeren, which was filmed in Klis Fort and a quarry locally.
  • Nearly pee your pants time when you get to the chest of the 3 dragons eggs.. Eek
  • As we moved through it turned to Kings Landing in which there was a model of the city.
  • Alongside costumes of Jaime Lannister, Tywin and a statue of Tyrion with goblet in hand (making you think of a famous quote) I drink and I know things.
  • Cersei and The Mountain costumes, which then makes you think wow I thought it would be bigger.
  • Further along there is a photo op to sit at a desk with costumes of Varys and Little finger behind you
  • Around this part there is also weapons, and props form the series
  • Moving along there are then costumes of joffrey, margery and sansa.
  • Walking through the arch way you come face to face with Hodor placed against the door holding back the wights.
  • Turn right into winterfell and costumes and Jon snow statue
  • You can pose with long claw another geeky photo op.
  • Turning left is the weirwood tree with filming locations around the walls
  • Also a model of winter fell and shields on the walls
  • Opposite the nightwatch area and the wall
  • Next to Bravos and a statue of Ayria and a wall of the faceless men
  • Next room takes us beyond the wall and into the realms of the Night King and White walkers statues, at this point I felt like it turned cold don’t know if it was atmosphere or just me
  • An area dedicated to the children of the forest and the three eyed raven after passing a statue of a ice dragon.

Overview

  • Overall, we enjoyed the tour of the museum and the insight given by the guide. They also gave us areas of the city which were used in filming. Lots of people in Split were extras in the scenes, and this gives more personal view and lots of inside snippets to how it impacted them and the city. The tour takes about 30 minutes and then you can wander round again if you want too. We were allowed to take photos etc throughout the time there.
  • Over the way, there is an official game of Thrones shop when if you buy something in the shop you can grab a photo sitting on the Iron Throne.
  • Around Split are various Game  of Thrones film locations and specific GOT walking tours.

Don’t forget to hashtag your photos
