When you disembark from the airplane and take a deep breathe of the heat of the Croatian sun it  warms your soul.. then when driving from the airport to the old town and you travel along the winding coast road and suddenly the amazing sight of the white of the limestone architecture which is offset against the terracotta roofs lifts your spirits and if that wasn’t enough the depth of the blue and sea twinkles of the Adriatic Sea will blow your mind ..welcome to Dubrovnik

those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”

-George Bernard Shaw

  • Getting there
  • We flew from London To Dubrovnik with Easyjet which was around £50 one way
  • If you are flying from the Uk the flight was at 7.05 am so we stayed over night at the Premier Inn

Where to stay

  • Airbnb – we stayed in an Airbnb about 5 minutes from the city walls which we paid around £66 per night. There are quite a few steps to reach here but we can give more info if needed ( view from our Bedroom window)
  • Hotels in the area range from £140 upwards

What to do

  • City walls – you can’t go here without walking the walls, it’s about 2km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours to walk it. We travelled here in May and it was quite busy we were advised to do this later on the day so we got started at 5.45pm although they sell no tickets after 645pm there are still open until after 7pm
  • If like us you are a Game Of Thrones fans then you need to do a walking tour, however we have another guide if you want to wander it alone where we have given you the places and how to find them and what scenes they relate too however if you want the guided experience I think we paid £18 each
  • Boat trips they are a few different ones leaving from the little port of Dubrovnik we went on one to Lokrum which again we have a separate guide to which was super if you do one boat trip do this !! This trip £15 which is a 15 minute boat ride !!
  • We also too Dubrovnik Cabrio sightseeing tour – which took you to a few view points to see spectacular views you would not have seen such as the 1st photo and ones of the bridge and harbour of Gruz

What to eat

  • Breakfast – our fav was just outside Pile Gate pronounced (pea lay) at restaurant magnolia( the one on the right hand side of the two) just outside the gates we had a hot pile sandwich it was needed to set you up for some walking
  • Lunch – Tuna Open sandwich
  • Dinner – Black Ristotto and Dirty Macaroni (beef stew)
  • Bar – Buza Bar for sunset views walk up the Spanish steps or Cersei’s walk of shame past the restaurant along a little street  with long steps and on the left hand side an iron Gate go through opens onto a cliff bar

Other Things to Know

  • Currency – Kuna however some places take Euros
  • Weather – we stayed in May we were told it usually ok for swimming but we had some ‘unseasonal’ rainy days
  • Tipping – 10% for a good service
  • Getting Around – we used a taxi from the airport which was 250 kuna but they are shuttle buses are cheaper
