Whether you call it New Orleans, the big easy or Nola – you will come across a pulsing area of music and entertainment and gastronomical delights!

“In America, there might be better gastronomic destinations than New Orleans, but there is no place more uniquely wonderful. -Anthony Bourdain

Getting there

  • We flew from London To Dallas airport flight time around 10 hours, then onto Louis Armstrong airport in about 1 hour 25 minutes.
  • We took a taxi from Airport to Hotel costs $40

Where to stay

  • Hotel – we stayed at the Wyndham hotel in the French Quarter, this was about £120 per night
  • Airbnb – studios the French quarter start from £85

What to do

  • We went to New Orleans for Wrestlemania weekend so this dominated our time here, but we did go to the smoothie centre and Mercedes Benz superdome and the sugar mill and the convention centre all these venues were easy to get to and good inside. ( if anyone is looking to do this weekend we will be putting up a guide for this)
  • There are trolleys to get you around
  • Cafe du Monde – for the most well known beignets and coffee- a must do and taste – one of those things you have to say you have done, also be prepared to queue
  • There are lots of different tours for visiting cemeteries, which wasn’t something we wanted to do but apparently these are really good with a guide.

What to eat

  • Beignets – the are like a cross between doughnuts and croissants with lots of powdered sugar/ icing sugar
  • PO boys – we tried these at Mothers very famous for their meat rolls in gravy
  • Grits – we had cheesy grits in ye olde saints on our last night and they were amazing ( this was grits second chance as I had tried them and wasn’t keen)
  • For street food check out the French market

Other Things to Know

  • Currency – USA dollar
  • Cost – as above
  • Weather – we stayed in New Orleans in April it was a changeable
  • Tipping – same as the rest of America
  • Getting around – Using trolleys is a cheap way to get around and used by the locals so they can be quite busy
