This was one on our bucketlist, didn’t really know what we wanted to do or see so come live through our version of Rome!

The Trevi Fountain

• This has got to be the must see for free in Rome, unless you throw some coins if you believe this legend it claims that you should throw three coins into the fountain. The first coin guarantees your return to Rome, the second will ensure a new romance, and the third will ensure marriage.
• The fountains are turned off once a day and the money is hoovered up, and given to charity to help the homeless.
• Don’t be fooled by some insta posts this gets exceedingly busy and you could take some time to get the actual photo you want.

Spanish Steps

• The Spanish Steps, were not actually financed by the Spanish, but rather by a French diplomat by the name of Étienne Gueffier. The ‘Spanish’ part of the name refers instead to the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, which would have been located on Piazza di Spagna.
• There are 138 steps in all.
• The connect the Piazza di Spagna up to the Trinità dei Monti church, and as you look from the road in the photo above, if you turned round the road is full of designer boutiques

Villa Borghese Gardens

• It’s free to enter it is the third largest park in Rome and its gives you respite from the crowded tourist areas, with paths and green areas to roam , sit, chill.
• There are some spectacular view points from enterence of the piazza del popolo
• There are lots of things to see such as above and for €3 each you can hire a boat if you want too, lots of things to see in the gardens- buildings, statues, fountains etc. There is also a art gallery and zoo to pay if you wish too.

Stroll along the river

• If you have read our guide to Rome you will know we were staying near the Vatican, if you face away down a long road in front you come to the river.
• Along the banks of the river you will see Castillo de Angelo, a little white church (as above), the Supreme Court and numerous other points of interest
• In the heat of the summer quite nice to be under some dappled shade of the tree lined banks of the river and easy to navigate off the river to find places of interest using google maps

Pantheon

• We were wandering on our first full day here and just come across the Pantheon in all its glory at 2000 years old
• You can go inside for free and see the beautiful interior, find out about all the history, well worth a visit
• The word Pantheon is a Greek adjective meaning “honor all Gods”. In fact the pantheon was first built as a temple to all gods, Now a Roman church
